ZYVOX IV Uses

Linezolid is an antibiotic used to treat certain serious bacterial infections that have not responded to other antibiotics (resistant infections). It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.

This antibiotic treats only bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (e.g., common cold, flu). Unnecessary use or overuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.
How to use ZYVOX IV

This medication is usually injected by a health care professional in a hospital or clinic setting.

Before using, check this product visually for particles or discoloration. This medication is normally yellow. Check for leaks by firmly squeezing the bag. If particles, discoloration, or leaks are present, do not use the product.

This medication is given into a vein (IV) over 30 minutes to 2 hours, usually every 12 hours or as directed by your doctor. Do not mix with other medications.

The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. In children the dosage may also be based on weight, and they may be directed to inject this medication every 8 hours.

Linezolid is related to a group of drugs called MAO inhibitors. Certain foods interact with MAO inhibitors, causing severe headache and increased blood pressure. This could lead to a medical emergency. Therefore, it is important to avoid or limit intake of these foods to reduce your risk of these serious problems. (See Drug Interactions section.)

Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. Therefore, use this drug at evenly spaced intervals. To help you remember, be sure to receive it at the same times each day.

Continue to use this medication until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection.

If you are giving yourself this medication at home, make sure you learn how to prepare and inject this medication properly. Ask your doctor, pharmacist or nurse any questions you may have about how to give yourself linezolid. Learn how to properly dispose of used syringes, needles, and any unused medication. Never reuse needles or syringes.

Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.
